Dr. Su grew up with wealth and privilege. Her family isn't one of the top on Breadbasket, but one with substantial land holdings and political influence. She grew up with high expectations and the best education.

As a young adult, she developed an addiction to a combination of hallucinogenic drugs and sensory sims. Her parents enrolled her in a treatment program. However her recovery involved an ethical and religious conversion.

Dr. Su dedicated herself to college, pursuing a medical degree instead of business or politics as her parents intended. Her religious conversion to Omnitheism including strong ethics that additionally estranged her from her family and many of her peers.

She enrolled in advanced studies at a leading medical university on Curiosity Prime. Her mentor, Dr. Car Smithson, was a fellow Omnitheist and one of the leading minds ind epidemiology.

After many years of work under Smithson, her past and politics came under scrutiny by a conservative administration. Connections shielded her from most of the worst of the public fallout, but she lost funding and her research team. She cashed in favors to get a spot on Rapid Medical Transport 1 as team pathologist and infectious disease specialist.
